MAY 27, 2019

When the 2019 edition of the premier gaming lifestyle festival, DreamHack Summer, takes place in Jönköping, Sweden, the world-known festival will be presenting the first ever edition of a new top-level FIFA-tournament; the Nordic Masters. The tournament takes place on June 16, 2019, and will see the Top 2 teams from the Swedish, Danish and Norwegian FIFA-leagues competing for the honor of the Nordics. Discovery Networks has required the media rights and will broadcast the tournament in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.
With domestic FIFA-leagues on the rise in the Nordics, DreamHack is adding yet another competitive level to FIFA in the region, as the FIFA-tournament Nordic Masters – Powered by DreamHack has become a reality through partnerships with the Swedish, Danish and Norwegian leagues.
Nordic Masters will be showcasing world-class professional FIFA action with the FIFA-stars from the participating country going head-to-head, fighting each other for the honor of becoming Nordic Masters. Nordic Masters – Powered by DreamHack is a one-day tournament with the league winner and runner-up from each of the three FIFA-leagues eAllsvenskan, eSuperliga and Altibox eSerien participating.
The tournament will be hosted on Sunday, June 16, 2019, at DreamHack Summer 2019 in Jönköping, Sweden, bringing world-class competitive FIFA to the attention of thousands of esports fans visiting the festival and creating a unique atmosphere around the FIFA-tournament.
Every year we create an amazing atmosphere with DreamHack Summer where gamers can all come together and celebrate, and this year won’t be any different. We always strive to be world class and with the addition of the Nordic Masters, we will be able to showcase some of the best FIFA-players in the world,“ said DreamHack co-CEO Marcus Lindmark.
In September DreamHack launched the FIFA-league eSuperliga in cooperation with the Danish league (Divisionsforeningen). A few months later, in February, eAllsvenskan was created in cooperation with the Swedish league (Svensk Elitfotbol) and DreamHack co-CEO, Marcus Lindmark, is excited about how far this cooperation has taken FIFA in the Nordics in such short time:
We’re extremely proud to already be able to bring a Nordic FIFA-product and tournament in addition to the national leagues. Seeing the success with the three FIFA-leagues locally in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway, for us, it seemed like the obvious next step to cooperate around a Nordic cross-border tournament. We love to compete against each other here up north, and now we have a tournament where the competition revolves around finding the best FIFA-team in all of the Nordics; an unofficial Nordic Championship.
Discovery Networks has been the home of Nordic competitive FIFA broadcasts for the past half a year, as they with great success have brought both the Swedish, Danish and Norwegian FIFA-leagues to the many FIFA-fans on both linear TV and on the streaming platform, Dplay.
Nordic FIFA-fans are now being spoiled with even more world-class FIFA on TV and streaming, as Discovery Networks have required the media rights and will be bringing Nordic Masters to its full extend to all Swedish, Danish and Norwegian FIFA-fans and viewers with local native commentary coverage.
We are very pleased to have secured the rights to ‘Nordic Masters – Powered by Dreamhack’, which emphasizes the solid position we have built within esports with two successful seasons of the eSuperliga. It has to this extent given a boost to the Danish FIFA-stage and created new fans, which we are sure will also look forward to seeing the star players from F.C. Copenhagen and Brøndby IF compete against their Nordic neighbors,” said Discovery Networks Sports Director Anders Bay, continuing:
Compared to traditional sports coverage, this is an area that for us and the industry is still relatively new territory, but of course we adopt the seriousness and professionalism that characterizes our classic sports coverage. ‘Nordic Masters – Powered by Dreamhack’ will be no exception, and we look forward to attracting even more FIFA fans to the screen for a friendly Nordic neighboring game with world-class virtual football.
Nordic Masters is organized as a cooperation between DreamHack and the Danish, Swedish and Norwegian leagues.
The Danish FIFA league, eSuperliga, concluded in April and saw F.C. Copenhagen lift the trophy after they beat the two-time FIFA eClub World Cup Champions from Brondby IF in front of 1,500 loud FIFA-fans in an arena venue in Copenhagen. The two clubs are therefore qualified for Nordic Masters and joining them will be the two top teams from the Swedish FIFA-league, eAllsvenskan, and the Norwegian FIFA-league, Altibox eSerien, after their seasons will conclude on May 25 and May 26 respectively.
A total of 9 matches will be played throughout the day at Nordic Masters. The first match is set to start at 12.15 pm CEST and the Grand Final is expected to start not before 20.15 pm CEST. The Grand Final is played using a best of 3 format. All other matches are played best of 2 (home/away) with the winner being determined by aggregated score in case of a draw. Matches will be played on PlayStation only and in FUT (FIFA Ultimate Team) mode. The grand prize pool is $10,000 – winner takes it all.
